Batting Cage Nets
As the summer went on we got more and more serious about practicing for our baseball games and then playing them too. We even started buying more equipment for it. Baseball gets to be a habit if you enjoy it enough. We were all in the same boat, like an extended family full of addicts. We even stocked up on extra batting cage nets cause we didn’t know if we would go through them and we didn’t want to have to postpone our practice sessions. I guess we could have practiced without the cages, but who wants to spend hours looking for balls in the middle of the night, in the woods. My aunt would not have been happy if we just left them all there on her property.

We needed a couple batting cage nets to begin with, since we had more than one of everything. I have four cousins, and they all like to play. Plus, sometimes some of their friends would drop by. On certain nights, the crowd would get pretty big. It was like a baseball party. That’s something that I’ve never gotten where I live. Maybe because no-one has that much space here. It’s a completely different lifestyle. My aunt has a couple acres of property, so there’s enough room for anything you want to do. It was the first time I had ever stayed around for more than a day. I have to say, now that I’m back home, I miss it. Maybe I’ll have to think about where I want to wind up. But I have plenty of time for that.
I was actually surprised at how long our batting cage nets lasted. With those machines firing off at them and then the human pitchers too, we really put them through the paces. One heater after another firing away at the batting cage nets. I thought some of them would go right through, but nothing like that happened. Which is too bad. That would have given me a great story to take home with me. If I was the one pitching, of course. I can just imagine the looks on my friends faces. The ones on the team with me. If I told them that I wound up, raised my leg, put it down and fired a fastball straight down the pike as hard as I could. And it not only flew past the batter, but bust through the batting cage nets I was firing at too. I don’t think they would even believe it. But it would be fun to be able to tell the story anyway. I guess I could just tell it, since I really want to, but that’s not my style. I never make things up. I want to live the tall tales that no-one will even believe.
Maybe I’ll work on my pitching skills before I visit my cousins again. I’ll get through those batting cage nets yet. I think it’s possible. I think I can do it if I practice hard enough, and lit a few weights. And when I do, I’ll tell the world.
